My First Mother's Day

We were on the road to Gulf Shores, AL for my first Mother's Day. We had started driving Sat afternoon and stopped just south of Nashville to spend the night. When we were within a few miles of Nashville, I called to find a hotel. The first one I called was $170/night! No way! We just needed a place to sleep and launch from the next morning to finish the drive. I tried another hotel. They had one room left, a handicap room. It was only $99/night. Sold. Wasn't crazy about the handicap feature, but it was cheap. What I didn't know at the time was that the handicap feature would help...just slightly.

We arrived and tried to put Heidi down around 7pm. Plan was to get her to sleep then we'd try to fall asleep then too. This would help with getting up early for the rest of the drive the next day. However, Heidi wasn't haven't anything to do with laying down in the pack-n-play. Especially since she could see us in the bed! We eventually put her in the toilet/shower room, which was enlarged for handicap access. This was probably around 9 or 10pm. Why we didn't do it to start, I don't know.

Heidi woke up around midnight, nursed and went back to sleep. Then she woke around 2am. I tried nursing her back to sleep again. No luck. Ben and I both tried walking her back and forth in the room, and laying her in the pack-n-play only to listen to her cry. She was up. So we decided to pack-up and head out. This was around 3-4am.

This was the start of my first Mother's Day. Ben gave me a card, necklace with the letter "h", and he wrote up the account of Heidi's birth. It was all very special and I loved it!

So we were on the road by 4ish and both Heidi and I were soon asleep. Ben got a good chunk of driving completed during those wee hours of the morning. He was a great driver...there and back. I maybe drove a total of 20min when we were on our way home. We had just gotten to Indiana and Ben had been driving all night. I offered to finish the drive after our coffee stop. I didn't last long...constantly rubbing my eyes and not driving very well. Ben took back over and safely completed our trip.

Below are a couple pictures from that Mother's Day morning. Excuse the hair. Look at the clock. Maybe next year I will get the "pretty" Mother's Day picture. :)

I think Heidi just wanted to spend as much time with me as possible on this special day. I do love being her mother!

"I'm ready...let's go! The sooner we leave, the sooner we can be on THE BEACH!"

Mother's Day 2014 - Not a pretty picture, but I love that special little girl who makes me a mother!
